These swimming pools were built in the 1970s up by the hills quite far away from the ocean. I can understand they were a haven during long hot afternoons.

I read somewhere the trampolines were made so that you could practice for the Olympics. Don’t remember more than that, but it was surely built to host a diving competition or two.
I think that’s the case because of the seating places for many spectators.

There were two large pools and a cafeteria. There might be a miniature golf course as well, but I think it was overgrown when I was there.

Because I only travel by public transport, there was only one last bus to catch back home that day and I didn’t have much time to explore. I did three different explorations that day. But I spent about 45 minutes here and it was enough. It was a really hot day in late July, over 30 degrees. Most people would like to spend a day like that at an actual pool, filled with water – but not me. Nooo… :)

The pool closed in the 1980s, maybe because of the remembrance of a bad accident that happened already in 1971. Nowadays there’s just ruins left, and the bottom of the biggest swimming pool is a great canvas for street artists. I actually met a couple of artists at work when I was there.

The place isn’t fully abandoned though, accept from the street artists, commercials have been filmed here and some say satanic rituals have been performed here as well. I don’t know but I must say it was great during the day, but I’m glad I didn’t miss the bus so that I had to spend the night here.

Actually I almost missed the bus because the bus stop wasn’t marked. I went to a gas station to ask for directions and everyone in the station and the adjoining restaurant tried to help me in Spanish. Then two police officers came in and everyone asked them to help me (…). Haha! Because EVERYONE at the gas station only used their cars ALL OF THEM was wrong about where the bus stop actually was, and I ran across the highway SIX times before I finally found the bus stop just before the bus came. I have been so lucky during my explorations always. I’m so grateful. (Ok, later that day I was chased by a mama wild boar, but still (she didn’t get me)!)
