Privacy statement

UrbexShare is an initiative by volunteers. Unlike businesses, for whom persal data of their clients is often a source of income, UrbexShare has no interest in your personal data. This however does not mean that we don't care about it!

UrbexShare uses several techniques to protect your personal data:

- first of all, we ask from you as little information as possible: to create an account, we need a username, an email address, and a password. That's all we ask. The reason why we ask these is as follows: if you publish an urbex report on our website, your username is mentioned as the author of the report. Your email address and password are necessary to create a secure authentication system. The fact that an email address is required (instead of, for example, a username that is not an email address) is to make it possible to regain access to your account if you would ever lose your password.
- secondly, we do not store your password in plain text. Passwords first go through a 512 bit hashing algorithm before entering our database. This means that no one can see your original password, even if they would succeed in gaining access to our database. Not even we can read your password in our database, all there is to see is a seemingly random combination of characters.

We will not share your personal data with third parties, unless we are obliged to do so by law.

However, the urbexshare.com servers are so called "shared hosting" servers, hosted by a Dutch company, in the Netherlands, Europe. The contract that we have with them allows the personnel of the hosting provider to access the servers in case of technical difficulties or when they are obliged to do so by law, for example in case of a criminal investigation. This means that these members of the personnel or other people could, theoretically, see the personal data you provided. However, under normal circumstances, this will never happen. Even if so, passwords are still hashed, so to these people too they would be just meaningless "random" characters.

For security reasons our servers log IP addresses. However, these IP addresses are not linked to user accounts.

In case of suspected criminal actions, we have the right to share IP addresses and other personal data with competent authorities in accordance with applicable law.

With regard to your personal data, you have the right to:
access
rectify
erase
restrict
object
withdraw your consent
data portability.

Just send us an email at hello [at] urbexshare [dot] com and we will be happy to oblige.
