Tucked away behind a residential area, the abandoned remains of an old iron mill can be found.
Its easy to imagine yourself in a post apocalyptic/after human world upon entering the collapsing brick buildings.
A moment of peace and quiet can be felt, as the outside world melts away.
The remaining walls of the large and mostly empty buildings are covered floor to ceiling with graffiti. Not just the tags that a person leaves to let you know that they were briefly there. It's the he good stuff. Real artwork. Time, supplies, dedication.
In the warmer months, from the outside, the buildings look alive. Dense vines have taken over and made a home for themselves, creating a nice contrast against the red/orange of the bricks. Life is slowly making its way back in.
In the Winter, its like a scene from a movie. If there is a light dusting of snow, it's even more magical.
During the day, natural light floods in through open windows, doors, holes in the roof, etc. No need for flashlights or other sources of light.
It's an entirely different world at night.. Chances of running into local vandals or people who have made it their home for the night is more likely.
A forgotten parade float dressed in red, white and blue sits collecting dust and beer cans.
A leftover airsoft field sits in the middle of one of the buildings like a maze, making you weave in and out and around to get to the other side.
Parties, photoshoots, music videos, the smashing of computer monitors and other electronics, games of airsoft, shelter from the elements for those without a home. Its all happened here.
It's clear that this is a very frequented place. Something is different or changed each time we make our visit. Whether its a new piece of art, more trash than the previous time, whatever it may be, something is always different. However, we have yet to run into any of these "ghosts", always finding ourselves there alone.
It's safe to say the condition of this location is rapidly declining.
No existing "no trespassing" signs.
No batting of an eye towards the curios wanderer who makes their way in.
No plans for redevelopment.
Forgotten and decaying.
