This manor was built in the mid eighteenth century for a Protestant landlord. It would have been one of the grandest mansions in Ireland had it not been destroyed by arson by the IRA in 1920. The main building is roofless and crumbling but the iconic portico to the front is a great shot. However, what this manor lacks above ground, it makes up for underground, with two tunnels running from the basement out under the front lawn. Both end after about 200 meters. One is tall enough to stand for the most part, the other involves crawling, so not for the claustrophobic! Don't be afraid to approach through a gate into the field from the west, the neighbours seem to be used to the visitors!
