Located down a little dirt road in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park sits a little wooden building that was constructed in 1882 to serve as both a church, and a school until 1936. 39 different teachers would come and go throughout the little buildings time in service. It was never officially declared a school by the local government, and they refused to fund a teacher for the community. I'm not 100% sure but I'd say the reason why they had such a high turn over rate in teachers is because the residents of the Little Greenbrier Community possibly took turns teaching the children.
I could be wrong. But if you're ever in the Smoky Mtns,I'd check out this little building. There's also a cabin located down a trail from the school called the "Walker Sisters Cabin". Sadly I didn't get to explore it due to it being night, and with limited lights in dense bear territory.
The dangers of this place are almost none if you're conscious of animals that could be around.
