Much decay here... Some renovation work was supposed to start in early august, but I didn't see any evidence that there will be anything like this here in the near future...

Gravestone Church is an abandoned church, located in Wallonia.
It was born in the year 1211, under the name of B* chapel.
Following serious damage suffered when it was occupied by the Spaniards, the Dutch recovered the building and started renovations which lasted almost 100 years.
In 1785, Gravestone Church shone again.
It will be renovated again in 1864 and 1933. In 1986, it is unsanitary and is closed.
However, its tower was listed for its historical value in 1992.
This one superimposes 3 levels overlooking the triple nave.
On the tower one can read the inscription dating from 1732: "ADJUVANTE / DEO SANCTO QUE / VEDASTO OPUS / HOC ERICITUR".
After being rejected by the Walloon region in 2017, a transformation project into a cultural center, Gravestone Church must be shot down.
Turnaround in 2020, a public contract is awarded for its renovation for an amount of 512,000 euros. Start of work in August 2020.
Today the pigeons are masters of the place, the interior and exterior funerary stelles have been looted.
This spot has a still sacred atmosphere. The stained glass windows, inscriptions in Latin and the majestic organ still in place watch over the place.

The famous Gravestone Curch . I had seen so many photos , heard stories of entering through the back off the police station
When I finally found it ( roadworks) , the house next door was demolished , I could just walk round the building . A few kids showed me the way in
The church is now in total decay , covered in pigeon shit, and with a smell accordingly , a miracle that I didn't catch some strange disease
I'm glad I visited it , but I also feel disappointed
Should have done it years ago

The Gravestone Church
16 juli 2019,
