My boyfriend and I were on an excursion that had nothing to do with urbex; we intended to travel up many windy, secondary roads to get to Sam’s for construction workwear in Vermont. If I found any decrepit buildings or houses on the way, I was promised a looksy. On the way, my partner recognized an old Chinese restaurant in a town of western Mass where he once was a coke dealer. We’re both several years clean and (somewhat) respectable humans today. I wrote a short essay about remembering what it was like to be homeless for me when I had to sleep in condemned buildings in the stinging cold.
