Still puzzled as of why the location is known with such a name (Maison Gestapo) but for sure it is right there at the border between France and Belgium, where Germans might have occupied the land in the war times. The house is a typical country side small property, with a dining room and living and kitchen on the ground floor, a sleeping room nearby the main entrance and a larger bedroom on the first floor. The dining room walls are covered in green mold and algae, the whole structure is rotting away but it still keeps the atmosphere of a home where a lot of love must have once lived. The family history permeates from all the pictures you find spread around the house. The wedding photo of a lady with a long bride dress which may well have taken place in the 20ies is present in the living room, a bit like a shrine to a dead mother. Upstairs in the master bedroom you find another wedding picture, with a bride with a shorter skirted dress, surely a more recent wedding like in the 50ies. Mother and daughters are intertwined in the memories of this house. One plaque on the walls tells you to work hard because when u will be old your efforts will work for you...this location filled me with compassion and empathy. I felt this home filled with dignity and pride. A family to be proud of. Full of love. And yet abandoned like this. The bed downstairs has this mold just in the middle as if somebody died on it...it always puzzles me to find entire homes, entire lives abandoned as if someone just left and never came back.
