Haus der Statistik was once one of the more iconic urbex locations in Berlin. Now it’s a fort with security guards all around the clock. Only the most daredevil urbexers can get access. And soon it will be renovated and used again. Things are looking up for Haus der Statistik!
It’s fascinating how a large building just a few steps from Alexandrplatz can stand empty for 10 +years left to despair. The place is probably most famous for its large text ”STOP WARS” painted on the side facing Alexandrplatz.
Once it was the office of the East German statistics (since 1968, then owned by German Federal Republic until 2017). After the reunification of Germany, the building was used as the Federal Statistical Office. It was abandoned in 2008.
The building was supposed to be demolished but artists and local politicians stopped it and now it’s going to be a place for workshops for artists, low-rent housing and community projects. Usually I am a bit sad when famous urbex locations get remodeled but this one … I can’t wait.
