☢️ A subway that goes into the sky. After the WWII, the Ordzhonikidze sanatorium gained a rebirth and some modernization. So, for example, the question arose about the delivery of vacationers to the sea, because from the sanatorium to the beach there is a height difference of as much as 82 meters. It was then that the project of the second Sochi funicular was born, which was built in 1952.

Funicular and cable car - not to be confused!

Many people often confuse these concepts, although they are completely different structures, despite the similar principle of operation. A funicular is a specialized transport, a section of a rail road located on a surface with a slope (mountain, hill, hill), along which trailers ride, on a cable car. A cable car is a structure above the surface, with a system of masts and cabins suspended on ropes.

The light at the end of the tunnel

A distinctive feature of this particular funicular is an underground section, 126m long, which you can observe in these photographs. Reminds me of the subway, doesn't it? Of course, because this is a real underground tunnel, made of cast-iron tubing dating back as far as 1949!
Having suffered with climbing in 40 degree heat, it was very nice to be in the damp coolness. The spectacle resembles the movie "The Beginning" - when space is deformed and the tunnel goes into the sky, from where the light pours.

It's fall, bro...

we hung out inside for about an hour, my partner installed a tripod and a light for filming, and I even managed to fulfill an old dream: to drink a beer in the subway. And so I ask him to take a picture of me against the background of this charm, but then the light turns on in the tunnel... A second of bewilderment, the cries of scream and the barking of dogs are heard from above. Without a single sound and word, on absolute automatism, backpacks in the teeth, equipment to roll up and run away. The climb, with which we suffered so much at the entrance, was overcome in 20 seconds. I wonder what the guards felt when they went down into the tunnel a moment later and found no one there.
