Visit duration 1 hour
Been here during my Croatia visit in 2017, as a recently discovered this website im uploading some of my old visits. Since my visit was 5 years ago, i do not know the current state of this place.
During our roadtrip in Istria in 2017 we came across a beautifull building with a nice tower, and after passing it we noticed the building was abandoned, so we turned around and parked the car.
Villa Munz was built in the early parts of the 20th century for Austrian Jakob Munz. As it is one of the most beautifull buildings in the area, you can find it on several old postcards of the area. During WW2 the building was used as an outpost for German officers and after the war it was inhabited by an orphan. There is a video online somewhere of how the place used to look, complete with ball parties. It's really worth checking out.
It is located on a busy street and on a small harbour so security is not far away. Caution is advised!
We saw that some people went inside since there clearly was some vandalism done, so we knew there should be some way to enter the place. After a while or walking around the building we found a small entrance into the garden at the back of the building.
As Said, some vandals entered the building and it looks like some drifters where living here aswell. At some point in history the stairs collapsed, so visiting the second floor is a bit difficult, but it used to be possible, since there are some photo's circulating from a bath on the second floor. Reaching the tower is not possible anymore.
