Kiss from a rose on a (skull) grave.
'Skull graveyard' is the urbex name for an ancient grave at an old part of the cemetery of one of Belgium's best known historic cities. So actually, this is a legal visit.
The gravestone itself has the macabre sculpture of a skull on top of it.
The whole stone is covered with thick layers of mosses, collected through the decades.
The couple that lies underneath rests in peace for over 170 years now.
Part of the experience is to go find the exact location of the grave, a search that's not boring at all because the setting is beautiful, like you're walking on a movie set of a spooky movie.
I specially waited until autumn to maximize the atmosphere.
About the staging:
I've seen hundreds of pictures of the grave and I wanted to add something.
I was inspired by the romantic classic song 'Kiss from a rose' by Seal.
I know what I did is a controversial act and I also was confronted with some very critical comments like 'let the dead rest in peace', 'I hope you cleaned up your mess' and 'this is extremely ugly'.
Of course the big majority understands my poetic meanings and loves it, I hope you do the same.
I can comfort all of you that I took away every single rose petal before I left.
