One of the most beautiful remains of the mining history in the region. Although most of it is demolisched is the part that is left one of extraordinary beauty. The building looks more like a castle than a mineshaft.

Visited the real classic Hasard Cheratte before it was too late.
Demolition and renovation are now in full swing.
This had been on my list for a long time, but no one wanted to come along.
Ultimately succeeded!
We had to search for the “entrance”, but found our way through the forest with the help of a fellow “urbex share-rer”.
A really beautiful building from the outside and inside.
Above all, taking beautiful photos at the very top.
As said, fortunately still able to visit this location!

The Hasard Coal Mine (French: Charbonnage du Hasard de Cheratte) was the main mine of the "Société anonyme des Charbonnages du Hasard", which included four mine shafts.

After its closure in 1977, the coal washing and shaft 2 of the mine were demolished in 1980. However, after these demolition works, people wondered whether something should be preserved. Then shaft 1 was designated as a monument and the remains of the mine came into the hands of another owner, who wanted to keep the mine as completely as possible. However, this died in 2012, after which the mine again came into the hands of the municipality.

At the beginning of the 21st century, the ruins of the mining buildings remained, which are also used for Urban exploring [1]. Remediation of the site and demolition of a number of buildings started in February 2017 on behalf of the municipality and carried out by SPI, only shaft 1 with all the buildings connected to it, and the road bridge, are spared and restored.

Coalmine Hasard is definitely worth it! This is one of the classics. In the beginning we had a bit of trouble finding the entrance, but we succeeded.

This place is just amazing! It shows the softer side of the heavy industrial times, when you walk up to it you feel like you are walking up to a castle. It has big windows that provides beautiful lighting inside and towers with a killer view, if you dare to climb all the way up.
When you pass the mineshaft where the fatal accident happened all those years ago and you feel the cool breeze coming out, take a moment of silence for those who left their lives in there.
If you want to visit I suggest you hurry up since they are planning to fix it up so you might miss out otherwise.
Overall this location is a gem and surly worth a visit!

some history:

It's a really old but amazing building (coal mine). It was build in 1850.
After an accident accured, they decided to close it down for the first time. 30 years later in 1977, they reopend the mine again.
In 1980 were the coal washing and shaft 2 demolisched but shaft 1 was appointed as a monument. This shaft still stands here till this day but completly abandoned and left to the nature to take it over. It's protected by the gouvernment and they plan to restore it later on. Hopefully they go through with that plan, cause the mineshaft is such a cool and amazing location.

my experience:

this location was awesome and fun to visit! Also if you decide to visit, be careful because right beside the mineshaft is a pretty busy street with a lot of passing cars. Good luck!🔥
