Boats are expensive to get rid of once they are worn out. That means people leave them here and there instead of doing the right thing. It’s a shame of course for the environment and animal life. I live in a city built on many islands, and we have that problem too with old boats left without a owner.

In the year of 2017 I was traveling a few days on the small islands of Thailand’s coast and I saw quite a few of these wrecks. Most of them looked like old ferries that was purposely left on the spot. It wasn’t because of an accident or something like that because the hull (is that the right term for the outer shell of a boat?) was still intact and they were placed on locations out of the way of traffic but still close to a dock.

Like many urbexers I’m driven by the stories behind old ruins and these boats has their stories as well. For some people they are just trash destroying their paradise, and for locals surely a pest. And probably are they more toxic than other urbex locations’, but still. I can’t help being fascinated by them. Who was their owner? What happened? Does the owner live nearby? Can they see their old ship from a far and remember the good old times? Was there good old times on a tourist ferry? :) Are there seagulls that runs the boat now?

I’m pretty sure the ships were not lost in the tsunami. Like I said I think they would have been more torn up then. I know there are so many other more interesting places, but these boats, skeletons in the middle of this beautiful scenery, they still fascinates me. I would love to go back and explore some more in the future.
