Das Sanatorium D war für mich wohl oder übel, der ärgerlichste Lost Place Fall, meiner bisherigen Urbexer Zeit. So oft, wollte ich dort hin, wie oft, bin ich unbewusst in der Gegend umher gefahren, doch jedes mal, habe ich es auf ein nächstes mal verschoben. An dem Tag, an dem ich es mir endlich vornahm und auch durchzog, war es leider schon viel zu spät dafür, denn das Preventorium war schon komplett entkernt. So sehr hoffte ich, dass wenigstens das legendäre Feuerwehrfahrzeug, weswegen ich überhaupt so unbedingt dort hin wollte, noch an seinen altem Platz, nämlich direkt vorne dran, als Blickfang stehen würde. Die Chancen dafür, standen eigentlich nicht schlecht, denn die Flutkatastrophe traf auch auf Dolhain und hinterließ auch hier, schwerwiegende Schäden. Das Hochwasser schädigte die Brücke zum Sanatoruim erheblich, außerdem war Jene nämlich der einzige Weg, um überhaupt zum Preventorium zu gelangen und somit, war ein wegtransport des einzigartigen Feuerautos, eigentlich ausgeschlossen. Doch wie auch mit dem Gigantischen Gebäude, hatte ich mit dem Fahrzeug kein Glück mehr, denn es war leider auch schon abtransportiert worden.

Sanatorium ou préventorium de Dolhain,

Bâtiment majeure de l'exploration urbaine en Belgique. Il se reconnaît très rapidement des autres grâce à son camion de pompiers et à sa grande verrière qui l'accompagne.

Cet impressionnant édifice fût construit dans les années 50.

Mais à quoi pouvait bien servir un sanatorium ?
Par définition, ce lieu servait à des fins médicales. Il apportait premièrement une cure d'air et de lumière à ses patients, d'où l'utilité de la grande verrière, élément indispensable dans ce genre de bâtiment.
Deuxièmement, le sanatorium servait à l'isolement des tuberculeux très contagieux à l'époque. Ces malades se retrouvaient donc dans de grands espaces où l'hygiène était primordiale.
Il se dit aussi que ces lieux étaient souvent à l'écart de la civilisation pour limiter le contact social considéré comme source de fatigue.

La différence marquante entre un sanatorium et un préventorium est que le préventorium s'occupait principalement des enfants et adolescents qui étaient en l’occurrence majoritaires à Dolhain (près de 150).

Aujourd'hui, ce lieu abandonné permet aux passionnés d'airsoft de jouir de ce grand terrain de jeu. Cependant, un groupe immobilier est prêt à réhabiliter les lieux en logements. Une bonne nouvelle pour préserver ce bâtiment historique de la région.

Lors de notre exploration, nous avons rencontré quelques groupes d'explorateurs, certains faisaient la fête sur le toit, d'autres un peu plus calmes faisaient des photos de leur côté.
Nous avons enchaînés quelques centaines de marches au fur et à mesure de notre avancée.
La définition du sanatorium ne mentait pas, les espaces sont effectivement gigantesques. Il n'était pas rare que l'on se retrouve dans de grands couloirs comme au rez-de-chaussée ou dans de grandes pièces à l'étage où la lumière était omniprésente. Nous nous sommes retrouvés à un moment sur une espèce de terrasse, sans doute là où les patients pouvaient sortir lorsqu'il faisait bon.
Puis nous sommes encore montés d'un étage pour atteindre le sommet du bâtiment là où certains faisaient la fête. De là-haut, nous avions une vue magnifique sur tous les alentours.

En redescendant, nous avons examiner les moteurs de l'ascenseur. Il faut dire que les câbles étaient plutôt impressionnants.

Pour finir notre exploration, nous avons évidemment fait la photo clichée, celle du camion de pompier accompagné de sa verrière.

Prachtige locatie.voormalige psychiatrische inrichting.

Another bus stop location. While we were sneaking around trying to not make too much noise, there were kids on the second floor racing their radio controlled cars through a parcours of old rubber tires. Fair enough, the place is not much more than a beaten up ruin, but nevertheless, it was worth to visit just for the famous fire engine and the cool exterior of the building.

This was a place I wanted to see for some time.
I found the location really easily and getting there was no problem.

Located just outside a very beautiful town in the hills. The town itself is a nice walk, a pretty medieval like town with a nice river/ stream running through the place. A calm and lovely place.
After following a more busy road for a half hour I found the place, easy to enter because the fences had fallen down because of the storm last days.
A beautiful old firetruck is stationed at the side of the building, a rare sight to see.
Never seen such an old car before.

Once inside, I found the stairs to the roof very easy and what a view up there. I sat there for half an hour, just enjoying the free access roof until I almost flew off the thing cause of the wind.

Now inside there is not really much to see, it's used as an airsoft place probably and it's really empty. But still an interesting place to see.

It has a history as place where kids were placed with beginning symptoms of TBC. There was place for roughly 150 beds. That's the most I really remember.

Après avoir fait un spot non loin, avec la team on a décidé de faire le préventorium.

Très rapidement on s'aperçoit que c'est un site d'air soft. Il y a en effet un tapis de billes un peu partout. Certain endroit on été sécurisé comme les cage d'ascenseur pour éviter les chutes lors de leurs parties.

Un projet de réhabilitation en 52 appartements à été accordé. D'ici quelques temps, si cela se fait, le spot ne sera plus accessible.

Beautiful building. Today it is a paintball / airsoft location. But we did go inside, without airsoft / paintball stuff. Building is next to two houses. Lot of trash.

Le fameux préventorium avec sont icône le camion
De pompier qui malheureusement subit de plus en plus de casse au fil du temps et des personnes qui le démonte ...
Un très belle endroit dans un beau cadre et celui qui arrivera à se hisser sur le toit du bâtiment y verra une très belle vue 👌🏼
J’espère pour vous que vous y arriverez car certain jour c’est jour de fête à l’intérieure et donc difficile d’atteindre le toit 😂 je n’en dirait pas plus et vous laisse découvrir si vous aurez de la chance ou pas d’y arriver 🔫

Een hele bekende en oude locatie natuurlijk. Niet meer heel interessant, uitgezonderd de rode brandweerwagen en het mooie raamwerk, voor zover de ramen er niet uit gegooid zijn. Parkeren kan echt tot naast de brandweerauto. Leuk om eens geweest te zijn. In het weekend zouden wel eens airsofters actief zijn (geweest), wat ook wel te zien is her en der.

A very well-known and old location of course. Not very interesting anymore, except for the red fire truck and the beautiful frame, as long as the windows have not been thrown out. You can really park next to the fire engine. Nice to have been once. During the weekend, airsofters would sometimes be active, which can also be seen here and there.

The place is really trashed, but the structure, the firetruck and the surroundings make it worth a visit. When we were there we did encountered a dog so we did leave with quite a pace.

The sanatorium was built after the Second World War. This is special, because most treatment centers for TB patients are located in the interwar building. Children suffering from tuberculosis were treated in the building. In the 1970s, as many as 150 children stayed in the sanatorium, the old dormitories are still clearly recognizable.

Outside the hospital is an old fire truck. The German-made Magirus-Deutz with a 30 meter ladder was used years ago by the local fire brigade.

When the medicines improved, the closure of Sanatorium de D was not far away. In 1991 the doors were closed and the domain was sold for about 250,000 euros. The domain was now used as a rehabilitation center for weakened children, but this too closed its doors shortly afterwards.

Vandaag het preventorium langs de Vesder bezocht.
Hier is het weeral spijtig dat er zoveel vernield is. Maar het blijft nog aktijd de moeite om te bezoeken.
Ooit moet dat een mooi gebouw geweest zijn met de mooie trappenhallen.

Preventorium

Preventie kinderziekenhuis voor kinderen die besmet zijn met tuberculose, maar nog in de eerste fase.
Het was de bedoeling de kinderen hier verder zo gezond mogelijk te houden door gezond eten en veel buitenlucht. Het verschil tussen een Preventorium en Sanatorium; een preventorium had meestal meestal betere uitrusting voor onderzoek en de behandeling van de ziekte in het begin stadium en konden hierdoor zorgen dat de ziekte niet erger werd.

Geschiedenis
Het gebouw is in 1955 gebouwd in Art-Deco stijl, langs de rivier de Vesder. De meeste andere Sanatoria zijn in het interbellum gebouwd. Het preventorium bood plaats aan 150 kinderen. In de jaren 70 werden de medicijnen tegen TBC beter en liep het preventorium leeg.

Rond 1980 was het verlaten. In 1991 is het verkocht aan een Duits bedrijf dat er gedeeltelijk appartementen plande (Lofts). Dit is tot heden niet uitgevoerd.
In de jaren '90 zat er voor een korte periode, in een gedeelte een revalidatie centrum in. Het was maar een paar maanden en zo sloot het preventorium opnieuw voorgoed zijn deuren.

Heden
Het gebouw is in een zware vervallen toestand. Veel Vandalisme en graffiti De grote slaapzalen zijn te herkennen als je weet hoe het in de glorie dagen eruit zag.
Sommige muren zitten gaten en deuken in; door de inslagen van de airsoft bolletjes.
Op sommige plaatsen liggen dan ook veel van deze bolletjes op de grond.
Het gebouw word vooral in de weekenden voor airsoft gebruikt. Dus het is wel opletten dat je niet word beschoten. (die plastic bolletjes kunnen lelijk pijn doen en wondjes maken...

Brandweerwagen
Het visitekaartje van het preventorium.
Deze brandweerwagen is van Duitse makelij; een Magirus-Deutz met een 30 meter ladder.
Decennia geleden door de lokale brandweer gebruikt.

NAAR MIJN MENING
Het is zeker de moeite waard om er een kijkje te nemen.
Het pand is vervallen en vandalisme heeft in korte tijd het beeld van het gebouw veranderd.
Dit is vooral te merken als je research op het internet gaat doen. vergelijk van foto's van Urbexers in 2013 naar nu. In 2013 bijvoorbeeld had de brandweerwagen nog een motorkap en zaten alle zij deuren er nog in. Of het gebouw zelf. je ziet dat de ruimtes 'schoner' waren... minder tot geen afval.
Nu lijkt het bijna een vuilstort... gewoon zonde
Ik begrijp sowieso niet waarom men vernielingen pleegt of vuil stort op zo een locaties.

Le bâtiment n'est pas exceptionnel, en très mauvaise état, globalement vide, et utiliser pour des parties d'Airsoft.
La visite se fait très rapidement.
Le camion de pompiers rattrape un peu, bien que dans un mauvais état. À faire si on passe à proximité uniquement.

I just passed this on my way home from Eupen , although it was getting later I decide to take a look
I first took some photos of the fire truck ,then walked round the building
I only looked round on the first floor , didn't think it was that interesting and because it got darker I didn't take any photos
at that time I wasn't that hard into urbex , I loved abandoned buildings , took photos when I got the chance , but was not actively looking for locations ( what I found , I used with a model)
In the years the building has been trashed and the fire truck has suffered , but it's still there
