First of all, watching out for security is a must here. Allthough I personally think they don't care as much as they used to.
It's a beautiful, polluted mess, and playground.
But beware.
At the opposite side of the road of the cokerie, they are already demolishing everything. So I think it won't take long anymore until they take it down.
I enjoy every walk there, and found some of the most beautiful places I've ever seen here. Like the controlroom, the cokesoven, that creepy water tower thing near the oven. I want to go to the roof of that but the ladder at the top looks so gnarly...
I love this place and I hope I can explore it for a longer time.

This was the second time we visited this industrial playground. This time with drinks and decent cameras.
So impressive this large terrain full of scrap metal and heavily polluted dirt.
While this gigantic place is blocked off with chained-off gates and warning signs in the front, you can just walk right in from the backside. some of the surrounding industry is still in use, but as the tall buildings shield you from most angles, we were not in a hurry and took our time. There are no cameras, or at least we did not see any, however we had a little scare, when we came out of one of the buildings and had a dog look us right in the face. Did we get spotted by some security guard?
We quickly turned around and walked towards the opposite exit, but the dog was already waiting for us there.
He was alone, and just wanted to play, it seemed. He was wearing a collar, so he was not a stray, but as we did not see any other people, he must have ran away or something.
However, we decided to leave him behind, hoping that he will be ok in this awfully dirty place...

This former coking plant is part of one of major industrial site in Belgium, located in an area where coal and steel once were the wealth of its region. The site is gigantic and imposes by its complex structure. the coking plant itself was put into service in 1952 by the Forges de la Providence, before going under the ownership of other steel groups. Today, the site is kind of abandoned, though severly guarded. Its demolition and de-pollution process are progressing slowly.
Exciting visit to this industrial maze which, since my childhood, aroused my interest and my curiosity…
