Baikal lake is the world’s deepest lake (1 642 meters deep), and also one of the cleanest bodies of fresh water (it contains 22 percent of all the worlds fresh water!). The water is clean enough to drink, or so I was told when I visited a city by the lake in 2018. The lake in itself is magnificent and in wintertime the lake freezes and air bubbles make beautiful formations in the ice (Google it, it’s amazing).

There’s a lot more to say about this area, but I’ll will try to keep it short. The reason I talked about all this is that on the beach where I went it wasn’t that clean. :) It was right next to the ruins of an old factory and the water was full of metal debris from it. To be honest there also was a fence here, you were not supposed to go bathing at this spot. But the fence was down, and people were there anyways.

Maybe these ruins aren’t that impressive to an experienced urbexer, but the area sure is. The lake is situated in the south of Siberia, and there is a lot of wilderness combined with left buildings and ruins. It’s a fascinating area to visit in both summer and winter and I can’t wait to get back there.

The ruins we discovered was maybe what was left of the old shipyard that was there in the end of the 1800s. Even though it looks quite solid and new (?) we found lots of iron nails and large metal rods that might have been used to hold a wooden boat together. But we also found lots of glass and other stuff that could tell another story. Unfortunately, the photos were lost on my old phone, but I still wanted to make a report and tell you about this amazing place that is Siberia. :)
