This was the first ever urbex I didn’t succeed at.
It was my pride until then that I had never failed on any location.
How naive I was. :)
After this I have understood that sometimes it’s better to give up instead of risking too much.
Being one of Japans most famous urbex locations isn't easy to get to.
Maya Hotel is an Art Deco hotel up on a wooded mountain. The top of the hill is supposed to be Japans top three viewpoints and it really was beautiful.
Maya hotel was built in 1929 in this Western architectural style. During WWII it had anti-aircraft guns on the roof to protect the city. The hotel was mostly destroyed during the war though. In 1961 a private owner bought the hotel and opened again. In 1967 there was a landslide on the mountain caused by a typhoon that damaged the hotel and it was closed again.
Two more times it was reinvented but different circumstances stopped it from blooming. It was never what it was once was. Today it’s laying there forgotten on this remote location, waiting for its final demise.
1929 Maya hotel was built
1961 Opened for business again
1967 Landslide damaged the hotel
1974 Rebuilt as Students Center
1995 The building was seriously damaged by an earthquake
