This is or was the power house for the Ohio River Lock number 19. Locks where use on the Ohio river to help barges navigate the river easier. It was built in 1916. it has withstood many floods of the Ohio River and the neglect of abandonment. This is one of 51 wicket dams with locks on the Ohio River these made the river have a consistent water level of about 9 feet all year long.
The place can be accessed easily because it has a public access for boating on the Ohio River. There is a graveyard on site that can be visited with a short walk. The graveyard was for the lock house managers and their families I believe. There are two houses on site that where for the operating staff of the lock and their families. These are now private residences. This is a beautiful place to explore.
