Salve Mater is a psychiatric institution that has been forgotten over time. The building is «hidden» between other buildings that are being demolished. It is worthwhile to pay a visit there, there is an awkward atmosphere ...
It is an ideal place to take photos!

This large, neo-traditional ensemble was founded in the mid-1920s as a neuro-psychiatric clinic Salve Mater and consists of various pavilions scattered in the northern part of the original castle park. The pavilions are separated from each other by a linear drift pattern, as a remnant of the 19th-century construction around the Spoelberch Castle. After Karel de Spoelberch died without descendants in 1907, the castle and the park came into the possession of the University of Leuven in 1915. He gave it on lease to the Sisters of Charity to set up a "senseless asylum". The clinic became part of the UZ Leuven as a University Psychiatric Center, until all departments were spread over other hospitals in the late 1990s. The last pavilion was cleared in 2007.
Exploring this dazzling building, there were still a lot of injection needles and medications found on the floor. We were also astonished by the little church in this hospital with its colorful stained-glass window.
The complex is currently being thoroughly renovated and transformed into a site for living and working. All pavilions have already been completed and are already inhabited.
