When I was growing up, the grounds were still active. Nearby abandoned asylums are where we spent much of our time. We rode bikes from school all the way to a meadow surrounded by woods, and the entrance started with the morgue on the left upon entering the vicinity. Years later, I’ve come to learn many interesting facts about this particular asylum on the same town lines; it had an on all lobotomist, they forced the patients to have abortions, and part of the reason it remained functioning for far longer than it’s neighboring state hospitals is simply that it was federally funded. Funny how long creepy practices have persisted. When you think psychology has taken a turn for the best, another example of malpractice pops up. I had no idea just how dated someone the buildings were.

Visit duration   2 hours

I first visited this asylum a year ago. I wasn’t as into urban exploring because I had other hobbies which took precedence at the time. My friend was telling me aaalll about it and since I knew it when it was active and any asylum paled in comparison to neighboring local institutions to me, it took me a while to get around to it. When I first got there I didn’t think much about it to tell you the truth other then the leafy vines swirling and winding through the windows. That was the only thing that really got me as it
Tends to be for all of us. Most of the buildings were new in terms of when they were built, and they didn’t have any distinguishing qualities. The further I traveled onto the campus, I started noticing a change in architecture. The buildings were made of brick with arched entryways and had a more weathered facade.
I then entered the gym which I was informed was constructed back in 1901. I was especially enchanted by the appearance of it because the perimeter and semi circle windows were painted a dark teal color. The old rafters. So I got down and snapped a few photos. There were holes wear weak spots in the wood flooring and missing beams.
I saw a couple of other cool buildings on my visit but since it was so vast, I had to break it up into two visits. I ran into se unity a couple of times and they’re very nice. They usually just tell you to kick rocks.
Unfortunately when I was returning there for a second visit (since my recent one a week ago), I saw security again. And they informed me that they had to be extra strict in lieu of the recent fires caused. You can’t stop little teenage shit bags unfortunately. It’s such a shame. And it was to the church too. So I wasn’t able to get ALL of my old pictures back. I’m missing the green house, the library... but not not for nothing, they’re probably in way worse condition now then they were before. More folks who are feeling artistic feel the need to spray 666 and hail satan. If I didn’t have certain things looming over my head, I’d probably go back. I may return but I’m going to weather it out. Once these little arsonists fuck off, and security loosens up. In recent days, I was lucky to shoot a few of my favorite wards so that is good news.
