This was a passenger-cargo steamer from 1907. There were seven Scotland-built ships like her made 1867–1956. To be transported to Kenya, the ship was disassembled and transported by boat to the African continent. Every package was marked with a number, in a gigantic puzzle, to fit together when the parts were delivered.
The shipbuilding company Bow, McLachlan and Company of Paisley in Renfrewshire, Scotland built this beautiful ship for the buyer which was the Uganda Railway. In 1929 the ownership passed on to Kenya and Uganda Railways and Harbours and in 1948 to East African Railways and Harbours Corporation. In 2002 she was owned by a private owner who planned to turn her into a motor vessel. Still in 2019 she laid there, waiting for her new motor. Next to her is her sister ship built in the same time period.
Her boilers and triple expansion engines are of a similar size to those originally installed in the White Star Line ship SS Nomadic, which was built in 1911 as a tender to RMS Olympic and RMS Titanic. Therefore in 2008 a company asked to buy these from the owner for £200,000. The deal was never made.
